The jewelry of Madame Du Barry
310511 Henri Welschinger (1846-1919). Les bijoux de Mme Du Barry. Documents inédits publiés par H. Welschinger. Charavay Frères: Paris, n.d. (1881). Printed by Cl. Motteroz, Paris. 1 white leaf, frontispiece, 128 pp, 1 white leaf. Blue morocco with arms in gold on front cover, title and arms in gold on spine, glossy paper endpapers in blue and gilt, armorial bookplate on inside cover, gilt edges. The frontispiece is an etching by Legamey, it shows the courtesan putting on jewelry, behind her the King Louis XV. The count’s coat of arms probably belongs to a female member of the old noble Rochefort d’Ally family (the bookplate shows an order of knighthood, possibly the Order of the Starry Cross).
Corners minimally rubbed, very good conservation.
