Friendship album from Coburg

310073 Friendship album of a woman E. E. D. from Coburg. Cream silk with gilt ornaments on boards and spine, „E.E.D. 1802“ on the front cover and „Der Freundschaft Geweihet“ (dedicated to friendship) on the back cover. 44 leaves with 8 watercolors, a drawing in pencil and 2 in Indian ink, and a hand-colored copper engraving. Gilt edge. 120x180 mm. Circa 1805.

The „D“ on the title most probably stands for Dressel (she has many cousins of that name) and she probably was born a „Müntzer“ (the last entry is from her „friend and brother“ Joh: Chr: Müntzer). The inscriptions are from the years 1802 till 1807, most of them from Coburg and a few from the vicinity: Eisfeld (near Hildburghausen), Bayreuth and Kulmbach. Among the watercolors there is a remarkable one showing the aviary of the Hermitage Palace (Eremitage) in Bayreuth. Some comments are noteworthy, like „written just before the mail left for Vienna“, or under the lines by Elisa Lindenlaub from March 12 1805 „this friend died Oct. 12. 1807“, or with regard to A.W. Beer from Silesia (August 2 1802) „left in the present week in order to resume his pleasure trip“ etc. (our translations).

Some occasional soiling, edges rubbed, inside hinges split.
